The Great Outdoors

It's been hot, much too hot to spend lots of time outdoors. It's a good thing we have lots of windows and doors to observe nature from inside our nicely air conditioned home.

Last week we saw thousands of these flying around wildly. Lots of them hit the house...we were really glad we were inside during that.

They are june bugs which decided to come out in July. They've mostly calmed down now so we can venture out without getting bombed by them.

In fact, today when we were cleaning out our pools we found a little froggy in one of them.

Would you believe that this little girl loves holding it? Yup, she loves worms, bugs (except spiders and bees), and now frogs too!

Red Rubies

Sweet and juicy jewels that often go directly from plant to mouth...

These are Emily's favorite to pick because they are right at her level. Too bad she doesn't really understand the difference between green and red yet...it's a good thing we have more than enough to spare!

The Results

Do you remember the potato experiment? I dug them up today and this is only some of what came out.

Some decent sized ones and a handful of marble sized ones. I guess it was a success! Now we'll have to cook them up and see how they taste.

Art Update

We have noticed a substantial change in our little artist...what do you think?

I asked who was in the picture before the picture had names under the individuals and Hannah told me that the one on the left was wearing pants so it was Dad and the one on the right was her because she was wearing a skirt...and yes those freakishly long eyelashes are kind of realistic :)

So, in order to accomplish a recent challenge to read The Book of Mormon as a family before the end of the year, while we read Hannah draws a picture of what we are reading.
